Another quick location sketch/concept art. Possible door to Sweetpea’s speakeasy.
Instead of doorknobs or passcodes, each speakeasy has a veve (religious symbol) of their corresponding Loa (spirit) that potential patrons must identify and speak to in order to gain entrance. “Speak friend and enter,” if you will. (This one is of Baron Samedi, who among other things is a Loa known for “disruption, obscenity, debauchery, and having a particular fondness for tobacco and rum.”)
The veves also act double time as a ward against unwanted guests. Vampires can’t come in without an invitation (which is why Walter is standing forlornly outside) and cops usually can’t pass without the help of some (illegal) dark magic solicited from a bokor.
